I've owned the Duet for years. Never had that problem. It does sound like a hardware issue. As an added update, it appears as though Duet is not compatable with Lion. Drivers will need to be updated before it will be usable. Apogee says an updated driver for the Duet is coming in August. Send your Duet back and get one that works the way it should.
